Christ Church in Tyler, Texas seeks a full-time Organ Scholar/Assistant Organist-Choirmaster for an historic, downtown parish with a growing, traditional music program. The position has been structured as a full-time internship (two-three years) for an outstanding undergraduate or graduate student following a degree program or between years of study. The Organ Scholar will assist in the daily operations of the music department of this 1,200 member parish working closely with a supportive Organist/Choirmaster and Rector. The duties will include accompanying and service playing, conducting the semi-professional and volunteer adult choirs, assisting with the children’s choirs, assisting with the administration of the liturgical concert series, and general administration of the music department. The internship is ideally intended for those who have a desire to pursue a career in full-time church music. Specific duties will be determined based upon the candidate’s gifts and interests. Strong organ skills are required (choral accompanying, hymn playing and service playing in the Anglican style), as well as basic choral conducting/choir training ability.
